Activities To Keep Your Toddler Busy This Summer

Do you have a busy toddler in the house? Do you keep running out of ideas to keep your toddler entertained? Well if these questions have you feeling stumped, read this post. Here, we list 25 of the most fun and entertaining summer activities for toddlers that will be perfect:

1. Paper Bag Puppets:

You Will Need:

  • A brown paper bag
  • Brown construction paper
  • A pair of Googly eyes
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Crayons

How To:

  1. Turn the bag upside down to make the open end face the bottom.
  2. Fold the closed end so that there is a 7 cm flap.
  3. Fold the corners of the flap diagonally to create a trapezium and staple its corners.
  4. Cut out two ears and two bear paws from the construction paper.
  5. Glue them in place.
  6. Help you toddler draw a bear’s face using crayons.
  7. Show your toddler how to use the puppet and let him enjoy.

2. Indoor Basketball:

You Will Need:

  • A plastic bin
  • Old newspapers

How To:

  1. Help your toddler roll out the newspaper into small balls.
  2. Place the bin on one side of the room. Ask your toddler to toss in as many balls as possible in the bin.

3. Leaping Frogs:

You Will Need:

  • Cushions that are soft and will not be slippery for your toddler

How To:

  1. Place the cushions all over the floor, making sure there is nothing in the way.
  2. Ask your toddler to jump from one cushion to the other like a frog. To make it more fun, you can also place some finger food at the end of the last cushion.

4. A Crown Of Foil:

You Will Need:

  • Cardboard
  • Aluminum foil
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Decorative materials like jeweled stickers, glitter, sequins and such

How To:

  1. Cut out a long strip from the cardboard at least 10 cm wide.
  2. Paste the aluminum foil on one side of the strip.
  3. Cut out triangles along one side to make the top of the crown.
  4. Place it on your toddler’s head and check the measurements.
  5. Staple it in place so that it fits your toddler’s head.
  6. Cut any additional extensions.
  7. Let your toddler decorate the crown using the decorative materials.

5. Cardboard Box Car:

You Will Need:

  • An empty cardboard box
  • Sticky tape
  • A favorite stuffed toy

How To:

  1. Use the tape to stick up the flaps of the cardboard box, so that the bottom is completely secure.
  2. Now fold the top flaps towards the inside. The top of the box should be open.
  3. Hand the stuffed toy to your toddler and show him the box. Show him how to turn the box into a car for the toy. Let him place the toy inside the box and drag the box around the room.

6. Bop The Balloon:

You Will Need:

  • Balloons

How To:

  1. Fill up the balloons with air and show your toddler how to throw them high in the air.
  2. Show your little one how to keep them afloat in the air.
  3. Encourage your toddler to bop the balloon in the air as many times and for as long as possible.

7. Pillow Playground:

You Will Need:

  • Pillows
  • Music

How To:

  1. Place pillows on the floor and switch on some music.
  2. Let your toddler jump and play on the pillows.

8. Hunting Treasure:

You Will Need:

  • Candies for your toddler (make sure they are safe)
  • A little basket for the treasure

How To:

  1. Hide the candies in a room.
  2. Tell your toddler to find as many as he can and collect them in the little basket.

9. Table Tent:

You Will Need:

  • A big sheet, which covers the table and reaches the ground

How To:

  1. Cover the table with the sheet. Make sure it reaches down to the floor.
  2. Place little items on the edges to prevent the sheet from flying.
  3. Make a cozy space for your toddler inside.

10. Jars Of Music:

You Will Need:

  • Empty plastic jars
  • Rice, grains, beans and a tiny rattle that will fit inside the jar

How To:

1. Fill different jars up with different items.
2. Show your toddler how different levels of grains make different sounds and let him have a go.

11. Cotton Tip Art:

You Will Need:

  • Cotton tips
  • Plain sheet of paper
  • Paints
  • Paint dish

How To:

1. Pour the paint into the paint dish.
2. Let your toddler dip the cotton tips in the pain to make fun designs and patterns on the paper.

12. Phone Is Ringing:

You Will Need:

  • A small box
  • Paint and paint brushes
  • Colored paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Straw
  • Tape
  • Lentils or rice

How To:

  1. Add a tablespoon of rice in the box and tape the ends to close.
  2. Let your toddler paint the box. Let it dry.

  4. Use another piece of paper to cut out two ovals. Stick them on to make the speaker and microphone.
  5. Tape the straw to make the phone antenna.

  • Toilet paper roll

How To:

  1. Wind the toilet paper around the house from one room to the other.
  2. Make it go under objects and over objects to make the trail more interesting.
  3. Keep a treasure at the end of the trail.

14. Binoculars:

You Will Need:

  • 2 toilet paper rolls
  • Ribbons
  • Stapler
  • Stickers

How To:

  1. Place toilet paper rolls next to each other and staple.
  2. Tape the ribbon to the inside of the toilet rolls to make a hanging strap.
  3. Decorate with stickers.

15. Color Collage:

You Will Need:

  • Colored paper
  • Scissors
  • Poster paper

How To:

1. Help your toddler to cut or tear the colored paper in different shapes and sizes.
2. Help him glue them on the poster paper to make a fun and easy collage.

16. Cubby House:

  • Blanket
  • Chairs

How To:

  1. Place the blanket on a few chairs to make a cozy space.

  • Colored paper

How To:

  1. Help decorate the egg carton with the paints, torn colored paper and glitter glue.

21. Clean The Bowl:

  1. Give the items to your toddler and show him how to clean the bowl.

  • A cup of flour
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • Warm water
  • Food coloring

  1. Mix the cold water, salt and flour on low heat. Whisk to make a smooth paste. Add warm water and keep whisking.
  2. Remove from heat, add the coloring and let it cool.
  3. Let your toddler use it to paint.

How To:

  1. Roll out the bubble wrap from one room to the other and let your toddler walk on it while bursting the bubbles.
